Pirandai chutney healthy recipe in Tamil Nadu by food good

Pirandai chutney is a delicious and nutritious South Indian condiment made with pirandai (also known as adamant creeper or veldt grape) as the main ingredient. Pirandai is a medicinal plant known for its benefits, especially for bone and joint health
Here's a simple recipe to make pirandai chutney:

Ingredients:

1 cup pirandai (washed, cleaned, and chopped)
1/4 cup grated coconut
2-3 dry red chilies (adjust to your spice preference)
1 small onion (roughly chopped)
2-3 cloves of garlic
1 small piece of tamarind (about 1/2 tsp tamarind paste)
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons oil (preferably sesame oil or any cooking oil)
Water (as needed)
For Tempering (optional):

1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
A few curry leaves
Instructions:

Before you start, it's essential to handle pirandai with care as it may cause skin irritation for some people. Apply some oil on your hands before handling the pirandai to minimize contact with the plant's juice.

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped pirandai and sauté it for a few minutes until it becomes soft. The cooking time will vary based on the tenderness of the pirandai.

Add chopped onions, garlic, and dry red chilies to the pan. Continue sautéing until the onions turn translucent.

Now, add grated coconut and tamarind to the pan and sauté for another minute.

Let the mixture cool down to room temperature.

Transfer the sautéed ingredients to a blender or mixer grinder. Add salt to taste.

Grind everything to a smooth paste, adding a little water if needed to achieve the desired consistency.

Taste the chutney and adjust salt or spice levels if required.

If you prefer a tempering, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, and when they start spluttering, add curry leaves. Once the curry leaves turn crispy, turn off the heat.

Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix it well.

Your pirandai chutney is ready! Serve it with idli, dosa, rice, or any other South Indian dish of your choice. It can also be used as a spread for sandwiches or wraps. Remember to store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator Enjoy the unique taste and health benefits of this delicious chutney!
